Jesse Owens Memorial Complex Scheduled to Open in 2005
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, to signal the start of construction of the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex, 9191 South Polk.
Former Olympians Chryste Gaines, South Oak Cliff High School, Roy Martin, Roosevelt, current New Orleans Saints player Kendyl Jacox, Carter High School and NFL greats Richmond Webb, Roosevelt High School, Greg Hill, Carter High School and Bruce Davis, Roosevelt High School have confirmed their participation.
Former district athletic directors as well as coaches Jack Hitchcock, Kimball High School and Freddie James, Carter High School will be present.
The new stadium, named for the record-breaking Olympic athlete Jesse Owens is scheduled to open in 2005 and will house a 12,000-plus seat football, soccer and track stadium featuring an artificial turf field and an eight-lane all-weather track with other track and field amenities. The fieldhouse, also to open in 2005, holds 7,500 seats for basketball, volleyball and wrestling events.
HKS Architect, Austin Commercial and Turner Construction are the design and construction team.

Take I-35 south and travel about nine miles; take the I-20 west exit (Fort Worth), Exit 418A; take South Polk St, Exit 466; turn left on Polk Street and continue about half a mile to athletic facility construction site.
