DALLAS– Karen Wilson, associate superintendent of Financial Services for the Dallas Independent School District, has been elected vice president of the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO).

Wilson assumed the office during the association's 58th annual conference last month in Houston. She will serve a one-year term as vice president and will automatically become president-elect of TASBO in 2005.

A member of the association since 1986, Wilson has served as secretary, vice president and president of the Gulf Coast TASBO Affiliate. In 1999, Wilson was elected to a three-year term as a director of the TASBO Board. A certified public accountant, Wilson holds the distinguished Certified Texas School Business Official designation from TASBO.

"TASBO is one of the most important organizations for school business officials and new entrants into school business offices," said Wilson. "The association provides wonderful opportunities for us to work together to share common problems, experiences, and information."

An independent, not-for-profit professional association, TASBO is dedicated to educating its membership and constituency in professional school business management practices, serving as the recognized source of accurate, objective school business information in Texas, and promoting high standards of conduct and professional ethics in school business. Affiliated with the Association of School Business Officials International, TASBO's 3,500 members and 25 regional affiliates represent more than 800 Texas school districts.

"Financing the cost of education continues to be a focal point of our daily operations," said Wilson about TASBO's challenges. "We need to join together and share ideas for coping with these challenges while increasing the educational opportunities for the children in our districts. It is important that we continue to network with each other and provide a supportive environment for those who join us in the profession."
