Eight Seniors to Stand in Mayor's Shoes

DALLAS– On Wednesday, April 21, Dallas Independent School District senior Manuel Sanchez at School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center will receive first-hand pointers on city government from Mayor Laura Miller.

As Mayor for a Day, Sanchez will sit with Miller for meetings and briefings with the City Council, area business and political figures, and other functions scheduled for the day. The program, designed to educate young people about city government, offers an inside view of how Dallas runs to the students chosen to participate.

Sanchez is the first among his peers at district schools to be selected Mayor for a Day this term. Well acquainted with leadership, he serves on the DISD Teen School Board, is chair of the Townview Executive Board, and co-president of the Townview Ambassadors. Sanchez plans to study medicine at Harvard or Rice, and return to Dallas upon graduation.
