May Is Asian Cultural Heritage Month

DISD Students Celebrate with Costumes, Dances and Art Displays

DALLAS—In May, students in the Dallas Independent School District will participate in activities in recognition of Asian Cultural Heritage Month. Designated by a presidential proclamation, Asian Cultural Heritage Month acknowledges the rich heritage of Asian Americans and the many contributions they have made to the American culture.

Among the activities planned, North Dallas High School students have organized an Asian club show to explore the theme of "Diversity." Performance is at 2:55 p.m., May 7, in the school auditorium. The school is located at 3120 N. Haskell Ave.

The Cambodian Dancers from Reinhardt Elementary School will be performing at Priscilla Tyler Elementary School at 9:45 a.m., Wednesday, May 12. The school is located at 2333 Calypso. The dancers will return to their campus to perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 20. Reinhardt is located at 10122 Losa Dr.

Students at J.F. Kennedy Learning Center will host an Asian American breakfast for faculty and staff, May 13. Following the breakfast, students will present an Asian American program at 8:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Faculty and students are encouraged to wear national costumes. The school is located at 1802 Moser.

Woodrow Wilson High School will have books displayed in the library honoring the Asian Culture during the month of May. Display hours are 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday - Friday. The school is located at 100 Glasgow Dr.
