Maple Lawn Elementary Principal Juanita Nix To Retire After 50 years in Education

DALLAS—A reception and dinner to honor retiring Dallas Independent School District employees will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 300 Reunion Blvd.

Among the retirees are six employees who have been in the education field for 45 to 50 years. "There is no nobler cause than public education," said Superintendent Mike Moses. "It has been an honor and a pleasure to get to know many of the outstanding teachers who will retire this year. They are caring human beings and professional educators in every way. They will be missed, and their contributions to this school district will not be forgotten."

Retiring after 50 years is Juanita Nix, principal at Maple Lawn Elementary School. "I love teaching," she says. "It is a profession that was instilled in me by my mother, who also was a teacher. I love every aspect of being an educator in the public school system."

• Charles Head, teacher, Hillcrest High School (45 years)

• Kenneth Hunt, teacher, South Oak Cliff High School (46 years)

• Earnest Polk, Dropout Prevention Program specialist and teacher (46 years)
