Two New Trustees Will Take Office
DALLAS—Nine candidates are seeking two open seats on the Dallas Independent School District's Board of Trustees in the upcoming May 15 elections to replace George Williams and Rafael Anchia who will not be seeking re-election.
Williams, who has served on the board since January 1999 and has represented District 4, which includes Southeast Dallas and Seagoville, did not seek re-election. Anchia, who represented Central Oak Cliff and West Dallas, served on the board from May 2001 to March 2004, resigned when he decided to seek an office in the Texas House of Representatives.
The nine candidates who are seeking a seat on the board are: District 4, Nancy Bingham, Jesse Diaz, Kenneth Green and Earnest Statuto; and District 7, Jerome Garza, Christopher Hay, Ramiro Lopez, Louis Trujillo and Bob Werner.
Current District 5 trustee, Lew Blackburn, East Oak Cliff and West Dallas, who didn't have an opponent, will not be on the ballot due to a state law that states when an incumbent is running unopposed, he can be taken off the ballot in order to save taxpayer dollars.
