Public Forum Focuses on Federal Funding
DALLAS– The Dallas Independent School District will host a public forum to discuss federal funding for school programs Wednesday, May 26, 5:30 - 7 p.m., School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Avenue.
Through the No Child Left Behind Act, federal funds are allocated to states and then to local agencies, including the DISD. Citizens are invited to attend the public forum to provide input for the most effective use of these funds, within the federal guidelines.
Programs to be reviewed include Title I through Title V. These programs address fair and equal opportunity, especially for low income students; teacher and principal training and recruitment; technology; English language acquisition; safe and drug free schools and communities; education reform and school improvement.
"The No Child Left Behind legislation focuses on enlisting parents as partners in their children's education," said Douglas Ochandarena, division manager–Grants Acquisition and Management. "This forum provides an opportunity for parents to learn more about the new law and the district's plans, and to give input and comments before plans are finalized."
Any questions not addressed at the forum will be answered on the DISD Website, www.dallasisd.org. For information, call (972) 749-2590.
