Prospective Students May Apply Until July 30
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District has extended until July 30 the application deadline for admission to the district's new all-girls school slated to open August 16.
Interested students entering seventh and eighth grades may pick up applications at the district's Area 5 office, 912 S. Ervay, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Offices will be closed June 28 and July 5.
The goal for the enrollment of the new school is 200. To be eligible, students must be in the 40th percentile in reading and math as measured on the ITBS or Stanford 9 tests, have a 75 overall GPA, provide a completed application along with copies of their report card and a record of their standardized test scores.
Once applications are received, school officials schedule assessments for applicants, including an interview and an on-site written essay.
Housed in the Stephen J. Hay building at 3801 Herschel Ave., the all-girls school will feature a college preparatory curriculum focusing on math, science and technology. Vivian Taylor will serve as principal. Taylor was previously principal at George Bannerman Dealey Montessori.
The new school will begin with grades seven and eight in its first year. Each year thereafter, a new grade will be added until the school becomes a seventh through 12th grade campus.
