Groppel to Become Interim Superintendent on Sept. 1
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees named Deputy Superintendent—Business Services Larry Groppel to serve as the interim superintendent replacing Mike Moses who announced his resignation as superintendent in June.
Groppel, 58, has served in DISD since July of 2001, and will become the interim superintendent as of Sept. 1, the day after Moses' resignation becomes effective.
Groppel served as the superintendent of Lancaster ISD from January 1984 until April 1993, and served as the assistant superintendent for business services in Highland Park ISD from January 1998 until 2001. Prior to HPISD, Groppel served four years as the deputy superintendent for planning and organizational development in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.
"Naturally, it was quite an honor to be considered for this post, recognizing of course that it is an interim job," Groppel said. "I think the board's vote this evening goes a long way to reinforce the efforts that have been undertaken here over the last three and a half years, and it goes a long way in supporting the staff's efforts and encouraging us to continue the agenda and the journey that we've been on since 2001."
