Teacher Is One of 36 Educators Representing the U.S. and the Only Texan; Leaves Friday
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District teacher Sue Blanchette, from Hillcrest High School, is among 36 teachers selected nationwide to travel to Kyrgystan, in the Asian Continent as part of an international exchange, October 1 through 25.
From 65 semi-finalists nationwide, Blanchette is the only teacher from Texas to be part of the international exchange.
"I am very honored, humbled and excited by this recognition," said Blanchette, who has 26 years of experience. "It is a great honor to represent our country in such a important program."
The United States-Eurasia Awards for Excellence in Teaching program recognizes the efforts and dedication of the nation's teachers by giving them an opportunity to learn more about other world cultures.
Blanchette, who retired and rejoined the district's teaching force, hopes the experience will prepare her to teach her students about the lives and cultures outside the United States border.
Blanchette is not traveling to Kyrgyzstan empty handed. Students and teachers from that country will receive 150 pounds of school supplies donated by Hillcrest teachers, students and PTA members and by community organizations.
