DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District officials will be joined by parents, students and community leaders to celebrate the inauguration of Irma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School, the first public single-gender school in Texas, Sunday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m., 3801 Herschel Ave.
"Our ultimate goal at the school is to hone the educational and social development of young women and to ensure that every student graduates from high school, attends college, and is prepared to be a productive citizen in society," said Principal Vivian Taylor.

The school has an enrollment of 123 seventh and eighth grade students. Some of them will be joined by a school teacher, Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 3:30 to 4 p.m. to deliver invitations door–to–door and personally invite the community surrounding the school to join them in the celebration.

Larry Groppel, interim general superintendent; Carolyn Bailey, Area 5 superintendent; Vivian Taylor, principal; Dr. Lois Parrott, president, Board of Trustees; Joe May, District 8; State Sen. Royce West; a student body representative and members from the Rangel family are scheduled to be present at the ceremony.

A tour of the school and refreshments will follow the inaugural ceremony.
