Business and Community Leaders Take Over Principal's Duties at DISD Schools

25 Oct 2004

"Principal for a Day" set for Wednesday, Oct. 27

DALLAS–More than 60 Dallas Independent School District schools will be run by business and community leaders, Wednesday, Oct. 27, as part of the Principal for a Day event.

State representatives, executive directors, attorneys and journalists are among the volunteers who have accepted to take over the duties of DISD principals.

"I want to know the responsibilities that not only school administrators have, but also the teachers to help them develop school activities that will benefit the students," said Fred Bronstein, president of the Dallas Symphony Association, Inc.

Principal for a Day is an annual event from the district's Partners in Education program to emphasize among community leaders and other professionals the value, strengths and challenges of public education.

The day's activities include faculty meetings, classroom instruction and assemblies. While the volunteers for Principal for a Day experience administering a school, they are also encouraged to share ideas for improvement.
