DISD Seeks Bilingual Candidates for Alternative Certification Counseling Program

Session scheduled for Nov. 15

DALLAS– An informational session for bilingual teachers interested in becoming school counselors for the Dallas Independent School District will take place at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov.15, Nolan Estes Plaza, 3434 S. R.L. Thornton Freeway.

To meet the demand of bilingual counselors in the district, the School Counseling Certification Program, a two-year program, will provide various options to assist in learning basic concepts and to develop counseling skills, including:
• 15 graduate honor hours of university coursework in core counseling subjects
• two online courses divided into six sections
• five days of counselor job shadowing
• TexES preparation training
• specific district staff development in counseling
• completion of two portfolios.
