DISD Teen Board Meetings Begin Wednesday, September 15

10 Sep 2004

Teen Board is Composed of 56 High School Students

DALLAS–With the purpose of representing the Dallas Independent School District students' community, 56 high school students begin teen board meetings for the 2004-2005 school year Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the board room of the School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.

Teen Board Members attend 28 different DISD schools and are junior and senior class presidents.

The students serve as mediators between their schools' students and the DISD Board of Trustees to address concerns they may have and to share ideas to improve services and programs offered to the district's students.

"The Teen Board meetings are an excellent avenue for board members and school administrators to receive students' input," said Judy Johnston, director-Districtwide Activities.

The meeting's agenda includes discussions of community service projects and reviews, guidelines and recommendations established by past teen board members. This year two topics will be added: leadership and etiquette.

"The meetings help the teens become better leaders at their schools," said Johnston. "They also learn skills they can use once they graduate."

Teen Board meetings for 2004-2005 are scheduled for the following dates: Wednesday, Sept. 15; Thursday, Oct. 21; Tuesday, Nov. 16; Thursday, Dec. 9; Wednesday, Jan. 19; Wednesday, Feb. 16; Wednesday, March 23 and Wednesday, April 20.
