A. Maceo Smith High School to Name Auditorium for Educator

Ceremony Set for Sunday, Nov. 21

DALLAS—A. Maceo Smith High School will close its celebration of American Education Week at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, with the naming of its auditorium for former DISD principal Donnie Breedlove, who was the district's first female high school principal.

The school, located at 3030 Stag Rd., will hold a naming ceremony featuring a video tribute to Breedlove, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the hanging of a portrait. Breedlove served as principal of the school from1980 to 1992.

Several DISD schools have planned naming ceremonies in honor of community leaders as part of their American Education Week observances. The events will feature student choirs, JROTC units, dance troupes and student council organizations. The schedule of naming ceremonies and the individuals they will honor include:

2 p.m. Nov. 14 Lincoln High School, 2826 Hatcher St.
Lecture Hall will be named for former DISD trustee Kathlyn Gilliam who is confirmed to attend.

10 a.m. Nov. 15 Sarah Zumwalt Middle School, 2445 E. Ledbetter Dr.
Auditorium will be named in memory of astronomer and mathematician Benjamin Banneker

1 p.m. Nov. 15 Frederick Douglass Elementary School, 226 N. Jim Miller Rd.

Media center will be named for pastor Frederick Haynes III who is confirmed to attend.

1:30 p.m. Nov. 16 Julia C. Frazier Elementary School, 4600 Spring Ave.

Media center will be named in memory of the late Berlaind Brashear, a former Dallas County Criminal Court Judge.

10 a.m. Nov. 17 Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School, 2001 E. Kiest Blvd.

Auditorum will be named in honor of attorney Louis Bedford who is confirmed to attend.

2 p.m. Nov. 19 Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center, 1817 Warren Ave.

Media center will be named for pastor and former legislator Rev. Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. who is confirmed to attend.

3 p.m. Nov. 21 A. Maceo Smith High School, 3030 Stag Rd.
Auditorium will be named for the school's former principal, Donnie Breedlove who is confirmed to attend.
