Council's primary goal is to educate all urban school students to the highest academic standards

DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District trustee Hollis Brashear recently was elected to the Board of Directors Executive Committee of the Council of the Great City Schools.

Brashear, former board president and 12-year veteran of the Dallas Independent School District Board, has served eight years on the organization's Board of Directors.

Representing District 6 (Southwest Dallas), Brashear was first elected to the DISD Board of Trustees in 1992. He was re-elected in 1993, 1996, 1999, and 2002. He served as the board vice president from 1994 to 1997 and as board president from 1997 to 1999, and again from 2003 to 2004. His colleagues elected him first vice-president in 2004.

The Council of Great City Schools, composed of 64 large-city school districts, is a national organization devoted to representing the needs of urban public schools. The mission of the organization is to promote the cause of urban schools and to advocate for inner-city students through legislation, research and media relations.

The organization also serves as a network for school districts to share problems, exchange information, and address new challenges in order to deliver the best possible education for urban youth.
