DISD Celebrates Three-Year Anniversary of the 2002 Bond Program

Obadiah Knight Elementary School's New Wing Revealed in Ribbon-Cutting

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Interim Superintendent Larry Groppel and community leaders will provide a progress report on the $1.37 billion bond program at a news conference marking the third year since Dallas voters supported the measure.

The news conference will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19, in front of the new addition to Obadiah Knight Elementary School, 2615 Anson Rd. Interim Superintendent Groppel will share the accomplishments of the 2002 bond program and join school and community representatives to cut the ribbon for the new wing of the school. The two-story addition to the school added 14 classrooms, a health clinic, first-floor offices and a 3,372 square-foot library.

Figures and updates on all of the ongoing and completed construction, additions and renovations will be shared. Since approval of the 2002 bond program, three new schools have opened, another three are currently being constructed, eight additions to existing schools are complete and renovations on 20 schools are finished or nearing completion.
