District Students, Programs and Events are Highlighted
DALLAS— For the second year in a row, the Dallas Independent School District's Emmy Award winning TV show, School Zone Dallas, is going bilingual.
An all-Spanish edition of the student-hosted show will air on Saturday, February 12 at 9 a.m. on Univision-KUVN-Channel 23.
School Zone Dallas, produced by Dallas Schools Television, highlights the many outstanding teachers, students, parents and volunteers in the district. The show has received two Lone Star Emmy Awards in the past two years, making it the first time in Texas history that a school district has received an Emmy.
"KUVN is providing a valuable public service by allowing DISD to present this television program to our Spanish-speaking parents," said Interim Superintendent Larry Groppel. "I think parents will enjoy the show and learn some valuable information about the Dallas Independent School District."
The special edition of Zona Escolar de Dallas will be hosted from Benjamin Franklin Middle School. It will feature stories on the Latin Jazz Ensemble from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, a very gifted art teacher from Sunset High School, a robotics team from Thomas Jefferson High School and the Civilian Cadet Corps from Seagoville Middle School.
"We are appreciative that the Dallas Independent School District is presenting this program in Spanish," said Univision-KUVN-Channel 23 General Manager Becky Munoz Diaz. "Our viewers will benefit from watching it."
This year's Zona Escolar de Dallas cast includes Cari Abuanza, Thomas Jefferson High School; Saul Casteneda, Woodrow Wilson High School; Sergio Rodriguez, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts; Natalie Verduzco, Skyline High School; and Enrique Guerrero, Moisés Molina High School. Story ideas can be sent to schoolzone@dallasisd.org.
