DISD Honors 2003-2004 Exemplary Schools

11 Mar 2005

16 Exemplary and 55 Recognized Schools To Be Honored March 10

DALLAS— Dallas Independent School District Interim Superintendent Larry Groppel on Thursday honored the 71 district schools that have been rated exemplary and recognized on the rigorous Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.

The 2003-2004 Exemplary and Recognized award dinner, sponsored by IBM, was held March 10 at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel.

"It is my honor tonight to salute 16 schools that have hurdled the bar and earned the privilege of being named exemplary schools. Another 55 schools have distinguished themselves as recognized schools," Groppel said. "Although the bar keeps rising for schools to achieve these ratings, our students, teachers and principals keep meeting and exceeding that challenge. We are proud of the honor they have achieved."

To achieve Exemplary status, the highest rating, a school is required to have a 90 passing rate for all students for reading/English language arts, writing, mathematics, social studies and science. The second highest rating is called Recognized, a rating that requires a 70 percent passing rate on all parts of the TAKS for all students and student groups.
