DISD Trustees Name Michael Hinojosa as Lone Finalist

29 Mar 2005

DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday named a Sunset High School graduate and former Adamson High School teacher as the lone finalist in its search for a new general superintendent.

With a 6-2 vote and one abstention, DISD Trustees named Dr. Michael Hinojosa as their choice to lead the Dallas school district.

The following is the statement Dr. Hinojosa made to reporters during a late-night news briefing following the board's vote:

"I'm very honored to be considered a finalist for this great school district. It's an humbling experience. I'm very excited to be part of this process. I think that Dallas needs to be proud because there are a lot of wonderful students in this great school district and this great city. I'm very excited to be able to work with an outstanding school board. And I'm really excited about the opportunities that are out there for us. Over the next 21 days we will be finalizing a lot of issues, and so I just want to thank the board for their confidence in me. I'm very humbled and appreciative to be able to be here with you this evening. Thank you very much."
