Ceremony Scheduled for April 8
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Michael Johnson Track Practice Field, at 10 a.m., Friday, April 8, 7777 Forney Rd.
Johnson graduated from Skyline High School in 1987. Johnson made history in sports by being the only man who has won both the 200- and 400- meters at the World Championships and the Olympics. He also became the first man to top the 200m and 400m ranking simultaneously, a feat he achieved five times in the nineties.
The 400-meter running track is one of 16 new high school tracks to be built with funds from the bond program approved by Dallas voters in January 2002.
Trustees Ron Price and Interim General Superintendent Larry Groppel will join Skyline students, teachers and administrators at the facility construction site for the groundbreaking ceremony.
