Winner Will Receive $5,000 Award
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa will announce the 2005-2006 Teacher of the Year Thursday, May 19, at the district's awards banquet, to be held in the Empire Room, 1401 Elm Place.
Sponsored by Central Market H-E-B, the event will begin at 6:30 p.m., and include video biographies and presentations.
Teacher of the Year finalists are:
• Jennifer Bramhall, Ascher Silberstein Elementary School. Bramhall teaches prekindergarten and has six years of experience, all at Silberstein.
• Elizabeth Garrett Bravo, George Bannerman Dealey Montessori Academy. Bravo teaches fine arts. She has been in her current position 11 years with 24 years of teaching experience.
• Phyllis R. Golden, Ronald E. McNair Elementary School. Golden teaches fifth grade reading and math. She has been a member of the McNair faculty for five years with 16 years of teaching experience.
• Shannon M. Pugh, W.T. White High School. Pugh teaches social studies to students in grades 10th – 12th. With eight years at W.T. White High School, Pugh has 11 years of teaching experience.
The winner of the Teacher of the Year award will receive $5,000 and will represent the district in the next level of competition at the Region 10 Education Service Center. Each of the three finalists also will receive $1,000 courtesy of Central Market.
NOTE to EDITORS: The program will follow dinner, with the introduction of the finalists about 7:45 p.m., and presentation of the winner about 8:15 p.m.
