John Eagle Dealership and the American Jewish Committee
Were Recognized for Their Outstanding Support
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District’s volunteers have contributed almost 210,000 hours of service to district students and programs, and their dedication was recognized at the Partners and Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held today in the Dallas Ballroom of the Adam’s Mark Hotel.
"The volunteers’ work and support to help DISD students graduate and become productive and responsible citizens will be rewarded when these students become the leaders of tomorrow," said Superintendent Michael Hinojosa.
Hinojosa expressed his gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers and businesses for their contributions of time and money in support of district students. This school year DISD reported more than 14,000 new volunteers and 760 active partnerships.
Hinojosa also cited that if the district had to pay for the 210,000 hours volunteered this school year, at a rate of $16.54 per hour, the cost to the district would have been $3,473,400.
Special awards were presented to two organizations for outstanding dedication and exceptional contributions. The 2005 Superintendent’s Award was presented by Hinojosa to John Eagle for bringing positive stories about DISD to the North Texas community through School Zone Dallas, a district-produced show that airs on WFAA-TV Channel 8. The John Eagle Family of Dealerships has sponsored three editions of the show since January 2004.
Deputy Superintendent Larry Groppel presented the Dr. Emmett Conrad Extra Mile Award to the American Jewish Committee. The Extra Mile Award is named after the late Dallas school district trustee, Dr. Emmett Conrad, and recognizes an individual or group that has provided services to the students and district over an extended period of time.
Sponsored by Nortel, the luncheon and awards program honored the contributions and dedication of the district’s volunteers.
