12 Jul 2005

Ceremony Pays Tribute to Two Prominent Community Leaders

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School and Sam Tasby Middle School at 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, at 7000 Holly Hill Drive.

Students, principals and the community will join Board President Lois Parrott and Chief Operating Officer Larry Groppel in honoring Lowe, a cross-cultural leader and dedicated businessman, and Tasby, an advocate of equal education for all children whose actions led to the creation of magnet schools. Both men played prominent roles in the desegregation of DISD.

Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School will receive students from L.L. Hotchkiss, Robert E. Lee, Preston Hollow and Dan D. Rogers elementary schools. Sam Tasby Middle School will receive students from Benjamin Franklin and Robert T. Hill middle schools.
