21 Jul 2005

Orientation for New Teachers is July 26-Aug. 5

DALLAS– The Dallas Independent School District will welcome about 750 teachers to the district at the New Teacher Fair Tuesday, July 26, at the Apparel Mart in Dallas, 2300 N. Stemmons Freeway, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

About 300 of the new employees are bilingual teachers and will be in their classrooms by Aug. 15, the first day of classes in the district.

"This fair is a celebration for the district," said Kristie Brame, director of the New Teacher Academy. "It's our way to show the new teachers that DISD has many good programs and opportunities to offer."

The new teachers will attend classes through Aug. 5 covering topics such as classroom management, multicultural education and instructional content.

Community and district representatives will gather to welcome the new educators. National motivational speaker Michael G. Walden will talk to the teachers about the importance of having a good attitude and about setting high expectations for children.

Community vendors and groups will host booths to provide teachers information on community and district resources. Washington Mutual Bank is the main sponsor for the New Teacher Fair.
