Scholarship Offers To District Seniors Amount to More Than $76 million
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District graduating seniors in the class of 2004-2005 have received more than $76 million in scholarship offers.
With a graduating class of 38 seniors, the School for the Talented and Gifted at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center received the highest amount in scholarship offers totaling more than $8.4 million.
The senior class at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts followed closely with almost $8.3 million in offers to 153 students. DISD had 20 other high schools where students were offered scholarships in excess of a million dollars, including Skyline High School where students were offered $5.7 million.
Class valedictorians and salutatorians have mostly chosen to attend Texas institutions of higher learning, with The University of Texas and its branches among the top choices. The University of Dallas, Southern Methodist University and Texas A&M University also were favorites among the students. Out-of-state universities selected include Morehouse College, Columbia, Stanford, Yale and Notre Dame.
