DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa on Tuesday named Arnold Viramontes interim associate superintendent of Technology Services.
Ruben Bohuchot, who currently holds the position, is on administrative leave.
Viramontes has more than 27 years of technical and operational experience in the technology field. He is chief executive officer of the Viramontes Group in Austin, Texas, and previously was the initial executive director of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board, an agency created by the Texas Public Utility Regulatory Act of 1995. While at the agency, he managed the nation's largest program for investing in telecommunications infrastructure for Internet access and videoconferencing.
While serving state government, Viramontes was appointed vice-chair of the Educational Technology Coordinating Council, a Texas Legislative initiative to build a statewide strategic plan for technology. Prior to his tenure as executive director, Viramontes served as the executive director of Technology and Information Systems for the Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, Texas.
Viramontes graduated in 1974 from New Mexico State University with a degree in business systems analysis. He previously worked at the White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico, primarily with contractors working on the Apollo 11 and 13 space missions. A life-long resident of the southwest,
Viramontes continues to serve in the public education and telecommunications arena.
