Schools to Celebrate the Beginning of 2005-2006 School Year
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District schools in Trustee District 9 will host a Back to School parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, to emphasize and celebrate community support for education.
School bands, cheerleaders, drill teams, cadet color guard and marching units and Cub Scouts will gather for the parade in downtown Dallas at 8 a.m. on Commerce St. between Houston and Austin St. The parade route will begin on Commerce St. and Lamar St., turn right onto St. Paul St., then turn right onto Young St. and conclude at City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla St.
District 9 Trustee Ron Price said this parade is to honor the students return to school and hopes it will make them excited about the success of learning. He also said that he welcomes the students that have been displaced by the impact of Hurricane Katrina.
"We open our schools and our hearts to the students from Louisiana who are at a great disadvantage during this most difficult time," he said.
