DALLAS-Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa will be joined by U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Tom Luce and Texas Education Commissioner Shirley Neeley Wednesday for a tour of Madison High School, a school that has taken in 96 evacuees from Hurricane Katrina.

Madison students and Principal Marian Willard will receive the guests beginning at 11 a.m.  The tour of the school, which is located at 3000 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, will take about 40 minutes.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, DISD had enrolled 1,461 students since Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, when the district began tracking new students from the storm areas.  DISD continues to increase its enrollment by about 200 students per day.

At 1:45 p.m., Luce and Neeley will hold a media availability in the Board Room of DISD, which is located at 3700 Ross Avenue.

"We are pleased with the interest and support that we have received from the federal and state government during this time of crisis," Hinojosa said.  "We look forward to having Tom Luce and the commissioner tour one of our schools and see firsthand how we're handling this situation."
