Ceremony Honors U.S. Legislator and Voting Rights Advocate
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary School at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4 at 6610 Lake June Road.
Students, principals and the Gonzalez family will join Trustee Nancy Bingham in honoring Gonzalez. A U.S. legislator for more than three decades, Gonzalez was a distinguished public servant and voting rights advocate who received the Profile in Courage award in 1994 from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. U.S. Congressman Charles A. Gonzalez, who now represents the same Texas district that his father served, will be among the family members participating in the event.
Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary School will receive students from John Quincy Adams, Nathaniel Hawthorne and John Ireland elementary schools.
