Dedication Held for Rosemont Primary School-Chris V. Semos Campus

Ceremony Honors Dallas Community Leader

DALLAS– Superintendent Michael Hinojosa joined Trustee Jerome Garza, students, staff and the community today to dedicate Rosemont Primary School–Chris V. Semos Campus. The school, located at 1919 Stevens Forest Drive, is named in honor of Dallas legislator and community leader Chris V. Semos.

"This school was built on the foundations of optimism, success and commitment to education," said Garza. "The example Mr. Semos has given these young students really inspires us all to be better leaders and continually strive to improve our community through a commitment to education."

Rosemont opened at the beginning of the school year with students from pre-kindergarten through second grade, 27 teachers and two counselors.

Chris Semos was a dedicated public servant, a successful businessman and an advocate for Dallas' public schools. He served in the Texas Legislature for more than 28 years and also served as a Dallas County Commissioner.

The school, built at a cost of $12.5 million, features 90,000 square feet, 37 core classrooms, art and science rooms, computer lab, music practice rooms, media center, auditorium and gymnasium.

The program also included a rendition of Texas, Our Texas, sung by Kristina Semos and the Rosemont Primary Choir and a children's book reading by Victoria Semos. Following the program, guests were invited to enjoy refreshments and tour the school.

Rosemont's motto is "building a legacy of leadership," the school's mascot is a bison and the school colors are white and blue.

Jacobs Facilities Inc./Pegasus Texas Construction was program manager for the building of the new school, Good, Fulton & Farrell was the architect and the builder was Coronado Builders, Ltd.

In January 2002, DISD passed the largest education bond program in the history of Texas. The $1.37 billion program is funding 21 new schools, almost 60 additions that include early childhood additions to present schools, and renovations to nearly every campus in the district. Contractors are working on more than 140 school facilities, including new schools, additions to schools, and renovations to schools.
