'Sacrifices Made for the Sake of Freedom' is the Theme
DALLAS–Dallas veterans who left high school before graduation to serve in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War will receive their high school diplomas during the Dallas Independent School District's Veterans Recognition and Diploma Ceremony at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, in the School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave. The event will also honor district staff who are veterans of military service.
A special recognition will be presented to Sergeant Major Joe B. Dixon, a recently retired district employee who served DISD for 23 years.
"Every veteran deserves this recognition for having served the nation," said Dixon. "It's an honor for me to have been selected to receive this recognition on behalf of all DISD veterans."
With the theme "Sacrifices Made for the Sake of Freedom," the event recognizes the sacrifices made by the more than 300 DISD employees who are military veterans. Those individuals will receive a proclamation from the DISD board and a commemorative gift.
"It is a privilege to honor and recognize all military veterans for their sacrifices and especially to the district staff for their dedication to our country and to our students," said Superintendent Michael Hinojosa.
