Kedric Couch Field Dedication Honors Longtime Coach
DALLAS– The Dallas Independent School District will dedicate the Kedric Couch Field at Alfred J. Loos Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4.
"We truly appreciate and honor Coach Couch's contributions to this district," said Troy Mathieu, assistant superintendent of athletics. "He has helped groom a great number of athletes in our district, and naming a football field in his honor is a small show of appreciation for all the years he devoted to the youth of Dallas."
Coach Couch began his DISD coaching career in 1955 at Sunset High School as assistant football coach. He also coached at Crozier Technical High School as head baseball coach and assistant football coach. During his tenure as head football coach at David W. Carter High School, his teams reached the state semi-finals in 1971 and 1974.
Among his many accomplishments, Couch was named Dallas' Coach of the Year in 1971 and 1974. He also was named National Coach of theYear in 1972-73. Other honors include being inducted into the Hall of Honor at Austin College in1978, and an induction into the Texas High School Coaches Association's Hall of Honor in 1998. In 2003, the All-American Football Foundation awarded him the All-American High School Award. Coach Couch's career spanned 33 years until his retirement in 1988.
