Robert Thomas Field Dedication Honors Longtime Coach

DALLAS– The Dallas Independent School District will dedicate Robert Thomas Field at P.C. Cobb Complex, at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2.

"Coach Thomas is an icon in the arena of athletics. His success in DISD is truly outstanding," said Troy Mathieu, assistant superintendent of athletics. "He has worked with some of the finest athletes ever to come through this district."

Coach Thomas began his DISD career in 1958 as a physical education instructor and coach at George Washington Carver Elementary School. He also coached at H.S. Thompson Elementary School, Lincoln High School, Pearl C. Anderson Junior High, James Madison High School, and Franklin D. Roosevelt High School.

In 1982, Thomas became assistant athletic director and also served as athletic director, executive director and interim assistant superintendent of athletics. Coach Thomas retired from DISD in 2000 after 42 years of service. Among his many accomplishments, Thomas coached eighteen football players that went on to play in the National Football League.
