Hinojosa: Technology Inquiry Completed, Former Director Separates from District

Superintendent Says New Technology Director To Report To His Office, Procurements Under Finance

DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa Friday said the district has concluded its internal investigation over alleged relationships between its former technology director and outside technology vendors, with the former director leaving the district, and several internal changes being made to better police procurement operations and procedures.

Hinojosa said that the district's former technology director Ruben Bohuchot has separated from the district and that the terms of his separation will be provided to trustees during the Committee of the Whole meeting Wednesday. He also said that two other district employees who had previously been put on administrative leave are being reassigned to positions of lesser authority within the district and will return to work Monday.

The superintendent said he also has ordered organizational changes as a result of the outcome of the district's inquiry, namely the posting of the technology director's position and its future reporting to the superintendent's office and not Business Services. He also said that the procurement process, how the district goes about acquiring goods and services, will be placed organizationally under the district's new finance director.

"The public has closely watched how the district has addressed this matter and we have done a thorough job of getting to the heart of this situation and taking immediate action to rectify the appearances of impropriety," Hinojosa said. "Now we must go through the process of restoring public trust in our procurement process and the steps we are taking should be seen as a step in that direction."
