7 Nov 2005

Nine Schools Recognized by Texas Business and Education Coalition

DALLAS–The Texas Business and Education Coalition-Just for the Kids Honor Roll program have recognized nine Dallas Independent School District schools for outstanding academic performance.

The schools made the honor roll by meeting demanding comprehensive performance standards for three consecutive years.
Five years ago, two of the state's leading education reform organizations came together to create the TBEC-Just for the Kids Honor Roll program to identify and recognize public schools in the state of Texas for their high level performance.

"Being honored by Just for the Kids is very special," said General Superintendent Michael Hinojosa. "The organization only honors those schools which have shown continuous academic excellence at all levels.

Congratulations to the educators at each of these schools chosen to receive this honor."

A total of 130 educational institutions throughout Texas were named Honor Roll Schools this year.

DISD award recipients are C.F. Carr Elementary, James B. Bonham Elementary, T.D. Marshall Elementary, Mount Auburn Elementary, William B. Travis Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted, Phillis Wheatley Elementary, Dallas Environmental Science Academy, Harry Stone Montessori and Henry W. Longfellow Career Exploration Academy.

The awards will be presented at a dinner on December 6 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Austin.
