Thousands of students and their families receive afternoon of shopping, fun at Dallas Old Navy stores

UPDATE: Tony award winner and Old Navy holiday ad star Kristin Chenoweth to host event

DALLAS—The Boys and Girls Clubs and Old Navy stores in the Dallas area will provide up to 2,700 children displaced by Hurricane Katrina with special shopping sprees this week where they can each pick out $100 of free merchandise.

DISD staff extended invitations to all elementary, middle and high school students who have enrolled in schools in the district as a result of Hurricane Katrina to attend the event. The Boys and Girls Clubs in the greater Dallas area also invited children affected by Katrina who have enrolled in their programs.

In addition to shopping, students will enjoy an afternoon of fun complete with Polaroid photos, clowns, balloon animals, music and more.

Tony-award winning actress Kristin Chenoweth will kick off the events and help the children choose clothes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 16 at the Old Navy Dallas Galleria store at 13350 Dallas Parkway, Dallas. Chenoweth originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked on Broadway and can be seen on television as Annabeth Schott in "The West Wing," as well as in the new Old Navy holiday ad campaign.

Old Navy's Field Trip 4 Fun events are invitation-only and have benefited thousands of children across the Southeast, in Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Jackson, Little Rock, Atlanta, Tampa and Houston. Just last week,
Old Navy helped more than 3,000 kids in Houston alone. Gap Inc. has contributed more than $2 million to support recovery efforts related to Hurricane Katrina.
