Superintendent Michael Hinojosa, Rev. Frederick D. Haynes III, and DISD students
to participate in observance
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District's annual celebration to honor the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, January 12, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 1819 North Washington Avenue.
The district honors King with an annual celebration to commemorate his timeless vision of building a more just and peaceful world. Hosted by School Zone Dallas students, the celebration will feature performances by DISD's Area 2 High Schools Jubilee Choir, the Elementary All-City Honor Choir, and students from Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Frederick D. Haynes III, senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church.
DISD schools will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2006, in observance of the national holiday honoring Dr. King. The national theme for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday observance is
