Students will demonstrate the "stop, drop and roll" technique
DALLAS—To provide information to students on how to prevent burn-related injuries among youth is the focus of a news conference Thursday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. in the School Administration Building,
3700 Ross Ave.
Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa, Shriners from the Garland Hella Temple, Parkland Hospital Burn Unit co-director Dr. John Hunt and Dallas Fire Department Acting Fire Chief Louie Bright - III will be present to wrap-up National Burn Awareness Week, which concludes Feb. 3.
Students will learn the "stop, drop and roll" technique from members of the Shriner organization. Safety posters will be distributed to all DISD third grade students to take home. The mission of this partnership between the school district and the Shriner organization is to emphasize the need for families to discuss safety and escape plans.
Statistics show that burns and fires are the leading cause of accidental death in the home for children 14 and under.
