Price and Trustee Hollis Brashear met Scott King in 1998
DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District Trustee Ron Price will represent the district at Coretta Scott King's funeral in Lithonia, Ga., on Tuesday, February 7.
Price and Trustee Hollis Brashear met Martin Luther King Jr.'s widow at a Great City Schools conference in 1998. At that time, in what he calls a "bold move," Price asked her permission to name a school in Dallas after her husband, to which she agreed. Colonial Learning Center in South Dallas was renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center in the 1999-2000 school year.
"Her death is a great loss for our country," said Price. "It was a great honor to have met her and to be able to honor the memory of the great Martin Luther King Jr. by naming one of our schools in his honor."
