Visits to El Paso Scheduled To Search for Qualified Candidates

DALLAS-In an effort to increase the pool of applicants, Dallas Independent School District Alternative Certification Department recruiters will visit El Paso to host an information session and hold interviews with people interested in joining the program.

The session will target individuals who are interested in becoming bilingual certified teachers, counselors and librarians in the DISD. For librarians fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Requirements to join the Alternative Certification Program include having a four-year college degree or its equivalent from an accredited university, a 2.5 overall grade point average on a 4.0 system or a 2.75 grade point average on the last 60 college hours and a 2.5 grade point average for coursework related to the area of certification.

Representatives from the department will be in El Paso Saturday, Feb. 25, hosting information sessions at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., at the Embassy Suites, 6100 Gateway Blvd. Interviews will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, and Sunday, Feb. 26, at the same location. To schedule an interview, candidates must attend the information session on Saturday, Feb. 25 or send an email to epinterview@teachfordallas.com before Monday, Feb. 20.

In Dallas, minimum salary for teachers without experience is $39,120. Bilingual candidates receive an additional yearly bonus of $3,000.

Training for the 2006 - 2007 school year begins June 5.
