Show Airs Saturday, Feb. 25
DALLAS–DISD's student-hosted Spanish-language version of School Zone Dallas, Zona Escolar de Dallas, will make its first appearance of 2006 on Univision-Channel 23, Saturday, Feb. 25, at 9 a.m.
In October, Zona Escolar de Dallas was honored with an Emmy Award from the Lone Star Emmy chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Magazine Format program.
"It is vital that Spanish-speaking taxpayers and parents of DISD students have an opportunity to see for themselves some of the good things taking place in this school district," said DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa. "Thanks to KUVN-Univision-23 and some very talented students from DISD schools, they will get that opportunity later this month."
Hosted from James B. Bonham Elementary, designated an Exemplary School by the Texas Education Agency, the February show will feature stories about what students at three schools are doing to combat childhood obesity, a unique after-school ballet program at an inner-city school, job shadowing opportunities for high school students and DISD's Teacher of the Year.
This year's cast of students includes Sergio Rodriguez, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts; Esmeralda Castro, Skyline High School; Cynthia Cordona, W. H. Adamson High School; Joanna Sanchez, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts; and Enrique Guerrero, Moisés Molina High School.
