During the Final Mile Medal Celebration

DALLAS– Dallas Independent School District kindergartners through fifth graders, along with students from other Dallas area school districts, will officially end their six-month running/walking and nutrition program during Marathon Kids' Final Mile Medal Celebration at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 25, at Loos Stadium, 3815 Spring Valley Road.

The 27,000 students who have participated in the 10-year-old program have already completed a total of 25.2 miles by running and/or walking in school and at home, and will run their last mile together to complete a total of 26.2 miles. Also, the students have completed the initiative of eating five fruits and/or vegetables daily, over a period of 26.2 days.

Sponsored by Whole Foods Market, Marathon Kids' free running/walking and nutrition program makes students and their families aware of the importance of exercising and of making healthy food choices to overcome child obesity and to fight Type II diabetes.

Dr. Eduardo Sanchez, commissioner for the Texas Department of Health, Dallas Police Department representatives and other community leaders, as well as parents and physical education coordinators, will join the students in the Marathon Kids' Final Mile Medal Celebration.

All registered students who attend the celebration will receive a finisher medal and a t-shirt.
