Dress give-away event includes workshops on etiquette, drug and alcohol awareness and leadership
DALLAS –Dallas Independent School District junior and senior students will be able to select their dream prom dress from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, 1201 East 8th Street.
Dresses were donated by Attitudes and Attire, Stanley Korshak and Whatchamacallit.
In order to qualify to receive a complimentary dress, students are asked to sign a pledge declaring their commitment to remain sober during prom season. Participants must be good academic standing, (grades, citizenship and attendance). The program's goal is to encourage teens to abstain from using alcohol and drugs on prom night to reduce the number of accidents that often occur during this time of the year.
"This collaboration with the business community, social service agencies, and the city of
Dallas shows students that the whole village cares about their well-being during one of the most
significant events of their lives," said Loraine Lee, Executive Director of Community Engagement
Services. "It is great to look good and have a good time; but most importantly, young people must
acknowledge and take responsibility for what they must do to stay safe to enjoy the rest of their lives."
The 5th Annual BuzzFree PROMises Dress Giveaway is sponsored by DISD, MADD, the City of Dallas, Dallas Police Department, Alliance on Underage Drinking, Greater Dallas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, East Dallas Weed and Seed, City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Youth Services, Teen Graffiti, and Jones 2000 & Beyond.
