18 Apr 2006

Eighth Grade Girls in Area 6 Schools are Invited to Attend

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Area 6 counselors will be hosting a conference for eighth grade girls called "Becoming Ladies of Purpose," Saturday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Moisés E. Molina High School, 2355 Duncanville Road.

The event targets eighth graders and their mothers. Participating schools are Thomas A. Edison Middle Learning Center, W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy, L.V. Stockard and Raúl Quintanilla Sr.

"The purpose of the conference is to inspire, motivate, and educate young ladies to believe in a future they can create for themselves," said Robert Muñoz, DISD Counseling Services.

The conference will include information to help students through their four years of high school, including topics such as exploring careers, early search for financial assistance for college and health care.

The mothers will receive classes on the signs of drug addiction, handling finances, parenting with love and logic, and help with the process of college enrollment.

Clarice Tinsley, FOX 4 news host, and other professional women will address the students on how they can succeed in life.

Students should contact the school counselor for more information, and to register for the conference.
