Free School Supplies Will Be Provided
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center is now enrolling students new to the country for the upcoming school year, which begins Monday, August 14.
Enrollment, which will continue through August, only can be conducted through appointments. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The student must be present to be enrolled, since he/she must have to take an assessment test. Proof of residency (utility bill or lease contract), immunization record, student birth certificate or affidavit (proof of age) and report cards or previous school records, will be required at the enrollment appointment. Free immunizations, backpacks and school supplies are provided.
Since it opened its doors in July 2003, the Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center has provided guidance to more than 7,500 immigrant and refugee students and their parents in adapting to life in the United States, and to understanding the enrollment process in the DISD.
Services provided include school enrollment, academic assessment, immunizations, mentoring, tutoring and parent orientation.
The center is located at 2617 N. Henderson, behind James Bonham Elementary School. To schedule an appointment, call 972-749-5760.
