Former City of Dallas official to occupy Communications and Community Relations post

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District announced today the appointment of Celso I. Martinez to the newly-created position of Associate Superintendent of Communications and Community Relations, according to General Superintendent Michael Hinojosa.

Martinez joins the DISD after serving as the Director of Public Information for the City of Dallas. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Marketing for RHD Memorial Medical Center, Director of Communication Strategy for Ericsson and Manager of Communications for Nokia and Levi Strauss. A graduate of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, he obtained a master of arts degree in English and completed his military career in the Air Force Reserves, attaining the rank of major.

"Our focus is the education of Dallas students, and to do that properly, we need the entire community to know, understand and join us in our vision and mission. The support of our community partners, the private sector, other governmental agencies and especially parents is crucial. We expect to maintain a constant dialogue with these stakeholders, and we will look to this division to facilitate that discussion," said Hinojosa.

In addition to the communications and community relations functions, the division will oversee the district's television production facilities, publications management, media relations, board services and the planned DISD Education Foundation.

"We anticipate that Celso's demonstrated communication skills, leadership abilities and practical experience will serve the district well," concluded Hinojosa. The new Associate Superintendent will report directly to the General Superintendent and be part of the Executive Leadership Team.

Martinez is married to Donna M. Romeo, Ph.D. and has four children.
