Dallas ISD Pre-K Through Grade 8 Students are Required to Wear School Uniforms

20 Jul 2006

Some High School Students Must Also Comply With a Uniform Policy

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District student uniform dress code policy established by the Board of Trustees in 2004, will continue in effect for the upcoming 2006-2007 school year.

Classes in Dallas schools begin Monday, August 14.

Uniforms will continue to be required for students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight. On campuses where the board has approved the use of mandatory uniforms, students will wear the school-approved uniform unless a parent or legal guardian files an objection requesting the student to be exempt from the mandatory uniform requirement or asks that student be transferred to a school where uniforms are not required.

Some high schools also will require students to wear uniforms.

The district's standards for appropriate attire such as style and colors are:

Not allowed under the uniform policy are blue jeans, low-cut or low-rise pants, sagging slacks or pants, clothing with manufacturer's trademarks larger than one inch and clothing with non-Dallas ISD logos and insignias such as those of professional sports teams.

The district's dress code is designed to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruptions, avoid safety hazards and teach respect for authority.
