Classes will meet at the location August 14
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District students in the attendance zone of the new Felix G. Botello Elementary School will be housed in temporary quarters at the Nolan Estes Plaza, 3434 S. R. L. Thornton for the first semester of the 2006 school year.
Students will not occupy the new building located at 225 S. Marsalis until next semester due to construction delays that affected completion of the new school. Botello classes will be held in the areas that formerly housed Jimmie Tyler Brashear, Joseph McMillan and J. L. Patton elementary schools.
Hector P. Garcia Middle School, and W.H. Adamson High School will serve as Botello's feeder pattern schools.
Registration for Botello students is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m., August 1-3, at the temporary Botello Elementary location in Nolan Estes Plaza. Classes will convene at that location at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 14, the first day of school for the district.
According to DISD Associate Superintendent Phil Jimerson the completion date for the project changed due to a late start caused by environmental site clean up and the bankruptcy of the structural steel supplier this spring.
Botello principal, Clarissa Plair says her staff is involved in efforts to reach the families of students who will attend the new PK-5 elementary school.
"We have held a series of parent meetings at each feeder school this past Spring and notified parents by letter as well as attending feeder school PTA meetings and kindergarten round-ups at
neighboring campuses."
In May, the Botello staff held a parent meeting at Nolan Estes Plaza where parents received school supply lists, were updated on the progress of Botello construction, and took part in the selection of school colors, the school mascot and uniform colors. Parents also have been invited to take part in the organization of the new school's PTA and site-based decision-making committee. Important dates of interest to Botello parents include a school block party and open house scheduled August 12 and a meet the teacher event in late August.
The district's transportation department is currently working on a transportation schedule to serve Botello families and will notify parents when information is available. Meantime, questions may be directed to the Botello staff at (214) 932-5179 beginning July 31.
