Dallas ISD Unveils Re-Designed Bond Program Web Site

31 Jul 2006

Site spotlights construction as program reaches milestone

DALLAS–The newly re-designed Dallas Independent School District Web site spotlights the district s 2002 construction bond program, which has reached a milestone with the opening of 12 new schools this fall.

The new schools, including one high school, one middle school, and 10 elementary schools, make up more than half of the 21 schools being built under the bond program. Together, the new schools will serve as many as 11,000 students in 515 classrooms and decrease overcrowding in existing schools.

Since the beginning of bond program construction, four new schools have been completed and 677 classrooms have been added to existing schools. By the end of 2006, more than 74 percent of the construction funded by the bond program will be complete.

The district has made changes to its attendance boundaries and feeder patterns to accommodate the new schools and an expected increase in enrollment. The feeder patterns of schools have been realigned so that students who go to the same elementary school will attend the same middle and high school.

Most students now will attend schools closer to their homes, and many school bus routes will be shorter and more direct. To keep up with growth and demographic changes in the district, more schools must be built, expanded, and renovated, district administrators say.

Visit the new DISD bond Web site for details on new schools and facilities, and renovations and additions to existing schools. Experience the site at http://www.dallasisd.org/bond.

The site has been designed to be clean and visually appealing, easy to navigate and to provide a snapshot of bond program events.
